Airophos 4KP
Airophos 4KP is a tetra potassium pyrophosphate based – a salt composed of pyrophosphate ions.Applications.
Agrochemical
Especially liquid formulations such as machine dish wash detergents where the high compatibility and high solubility of potassium pyrophosphate is particularly advantageous.
Cleaning of metal surfaces - alkaline salts cause saponification of grease & oils.
Used in household detergents to prevent similar deposition on clothing but due to its phosphate content it causes eutrophication of water promoting algae growth.
Ideal within hard surface cleaners and liquid detergents as a soluble alkali source.
Water Treatment
Corrosion and scale inhibitor in addition to water softener
Others
Dispersion of pulps and coatings.
A major application is the use of pyrophosphate in copper plating systems. The high solubility of potassium pyrophosphate makes it an ideal source of the pyrophosphate necessary for these systems.
Dispersion of pigments.
Dispersion of fillers.
Overview.
Is used as a buffering agent, an emulsifier, a dispersing agent, and a thickening agent. Its toxicity is approximately twice that of table salt when ingested orally. They produce metallic complexes with metallic ions. The magnesium ion in this instance is inactivated, or sequestered. The product formed does not precipitate from solution. Is best for magnesium ions whereas sodium hexametaphosphate is best for calcium ions.
The inclusion of pyrophosphate with salt enhances protein hydration and dissolution, resulting in increased yields and firm reformed products on cooking
Airophos 4KP is a colourless, transparent crystalline chemical compound with the formula Na4P2O7
